Sensory Spotlight: Spectrum Autism Friendly Festival CIC

Spectrum Autism Friendly Festival

Back in the year 2000, Sensory Technology was established with just a small team and a dream to build a business that would help create wonderful sensory experiences for people throughout the UK.

Now, a few years and a lot of hard work later, we are proud to be celebrating 20 years in business and we want to share this milestone with you!

As we’ve grown over the years, we’ve had opportunities to expand our team, develop our technology, and work with a range of amazing businesses and organisations to provide top quality sensory environments.

Upon reflection on our 20 years in business and the experiences we’ve been able to contribute towards, we wanted to celebrate by giving back to the community around us, which also provides much needed support and services. As a company which began as a small business and has grown from there, it’s important for us to support other small organisations in the town of Ilkeston, which aim to improve the lives and experiences of others as well.

In order to help these organisations and charities, we have selected eight within the Ilkeston and Derbyshire area to receive a cash donation, which will be used to help fund future projects, supplies and activities.

In addition, in the weeks leading up to our 20 year anniversary, we’d like to spotlight each of these individually so you can learn more about these fantastic organisations, the services they provide, how they plan on using their donation, and how you can also help to support.

Spectrum Autism Friendly Festival CIC

Spectrum Autism Friendly Festival started back in 2018 to offer a safe, inclusive environment for all children / young people on the spectrum and their families to enjoy a joyous day out.

There are over fifty different activities on offer such as climbing walls, pony rides, soft play, pedal carts, train rides, alpaca walking, animal handling, bouncy castles and much much more. Once visitors have purchased their tickets, all the activities throughout the day are completely free of charge, so guests can try new activities they may not have felt comfortable doing before now. in a stress free environment.

The event allows people with Autism and other disabilities to have fun in an environment where they can truly be themselves, whilst providing parents and carers a space to relax, without fear of judgement. All ages are welcome, and you don’t need an official diagnosis to attend!

With our donation, this will help towards the activities on offer. As Spectrum Autism Friendly Festival is a not-for-profit festival, to run the day costs over £12,000 so any donations are most welcome in supporting and helping to achieving a fantastic day for all.

Last year, we had the pleasure of working with Enfield Town Library to create a brand-new sensory zone within their children's area. Fast forward to August 2023, we were invited to the grand opening of the space with the wonderful staff from the library, members of Enfield Council and of course lots of little ones ready to explore the new space.

Whether you participate in all or some Easter celebrations - there are many ways to incorporate sensory-friendly elements. In this week's blog post, we discuss how to set Easter expectations, prepare for the celebrations coming up and some fantastic sensory-friendly Easter activities.

At the beginning of the year, Sensory Technology had the pleasure of designing and installing a Sensory Garden for New Bridge School. After receiving a Dream Referral via Dreams Come True, they asked for our help in creating an outdoor sensory space for their pupils to enjoy.

In this week's Sensory Spotlight, we’ll be exploring Floor and Wall Padding - which is one of the most essential parts of sensory spaces. Throughout our spotlight, we’ll be discussing why floor and wall padding are so important, the benefits they give to users and how they can be incorporated into various different types of sensory spaces.
